The Battle of Iwo Jima fought between United States and Japan occured between Feb 19 and March 26, 1945. Six marines raised the flag. Their names: Harlon Block, Michael Strank, Ira Hayes, Franklin Sousley, Rene Gagnon, and Navy Corpsman John Bradley. The flag was placed on top of Mount Suribachi. Unfortunately, Harlon Block, Michael Strank, and Franklin Sousley were killed before the battle for Iwo Jima was over. Whereas Ira Hayes, Rene Gagnon, and Navy Corpsman John Bradley became famous celebrities in the US.
