Details

The Tang dynasty was an imperial dynasty of China that ruled most of the time from 618 to 907. Certain art forms began at this time. New York Times art critic stated "artists in the Tang dynasty absorbed influences from all over the world and created a new multiethnic Chinese culture."

This horse statue incorporates The Tang Horse concept. Note the way the "seat" has been sculpted out in the middle of the horses back. Unglazed was one form of art then. This statue has that unglazed look. This statue uses a very historical horse.

Again, from New York Times: "Tang horses are the most widely popular image of Chinese art. The horse was the emblem of wealth and power. They are meant to embody rank and speed." Awhile ago, in 1989, a Tang Horse sold at auction for over $6 million.
