Enjoy this photo of Burrowing Owls. There are 3 owls and the middle owl has its head tilted quite a bit. Whimsical. Need a photo to make you smile, perhaps, this is it. Whereas owls are confrontational in nature, the burrowing owl is more sedate. The photographer is a well-known wildlife photographer and we have this photo exclusively.
Before laying eggs, these clever birds scatter animal dung all about the entrance to their subterranean burrows; the result? Their version of food delivery; troops of dung beetles and other insects come marching, which the owls then catch and eat without ever leaving home. It’s pretty clear that the owls are using the scat as bait: as soon as the supply runs out, they replace it.
