Some owls have "fake" ears...like the Eastern Screech Owl. What looks like ears is actually just tufts of feathers. The REAL ears are below their feathers parallel with their eye line. Why tufts? The guess is that it allows the owl to communicate with other owls simply by moving their "ear tuft." Interesting....
